You Know You've Raised Kids in the Middle East When...

You decide to treat them to an all-American pancake breakfast, and they decide to forgo the maple syrup and start spreading HUMMUS on their pancakes! UGH!

Don't you know, those aren't pancakes! They are mini versions of the lachooch, a tasty bread I pick up all the time at the Yemenite/Iraqi/Polish fusion restaurant Marvad Haksamim. Indeed, with a little chumuus they make an excellent breakfast.

Maple syrup on Lachooch? Blech!

At least your kids will eat pancakes. During our recent trip to the US, mine just stared at a chocolate chip pancake shaped like Mickey Mouse and refused to do more than play with one of his ears...

My kids will eat just about anything that's got carbs, fat or sugar. And too much of it. Just like their mother.
